Associate/Full Professor of Empire Innovation, Director, Vector Biology Program

The Vector Biology Program is integrated into robust Environmental Health, Global Health and Vaccine Development programs that include vector surveillance efforts in the region and multiple countries overseas. The Director will collaborate with other experts in vector biology as well as infectious diseases, microbiology, immunology, and public health with active programs locally and globally. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to lead a world class laboratory, conduct novel research with arthropod vectors and vector-borne diseases, engage in public health efforts for vector control, develop human infection models to support vaccine/drug development efforts, and design responses to emerging infections.

A successful candidate will have expertise in vector biology, medical entomology or closely related field. Active, funded research program and experience in mentoring junior faculty, students and postdocs, and technicians are required. As Director, you will oversee the completion and commissioning of a six million dollar Vector Biology Lab with laboratory/insectary suites designed at BSL/ACL 1-3 including an animal holding room and room for conducting Controlled Human Infection Models with mosquito and tick-borne pathogens. Previous experience operating a regulated, compliant vector facility is required.

The Director will hold a primary appointment in Upstate’s Department of Microbiology and Immunology, with secondary appointments in additional departments as appropriate.
